The Webster-Sutro House

Saratoga, 95070

Originally built in 1916, the Webster-Sutro Estate is an early example of Dutch-Colonial style and is listed on the Saratoga Heritage Resources Inventory. Features of the architectural style – the gambrel roof and long-shed dormers in particular – required careful renovation to keep within Registry Rules and to maintain the aesthetic.

Work includes removing materials down to the studs with new framing to open up the rooms while carefully reusing and salvaging the original structure. All new Electrical; Plumbing; Mechanical; Radiant Floors and Low Volt systems have been added. New doors & windows are designed and detailed to complement the existing design all while adding hidden retractible screens and meeting new energy and WUI requirements.

New roof matches the original staggered pattern, siding & trellis are repaired while keeping 100 year old wisteria and all while keeping the site in a ‘State Park-like’ condition. Full custom cabinets (Rob Scoma) stairs (Kevin Coyne) and specialty trim (Keith Bevan) including custom crown, casings, wainscot, and base are designed and milled to complement and update the original aesthetic.
